Ben Macdui from Càrn a' Mhàim

Many and varied walks are possible in Strathdon and the Eastern Cairngorms. There is the classic walk from Bellabeg to Glenlivet which was used by cattle drovers in the past, or for a shorter walk from your lodge you can walk through beautiful countryside to the Lost Gallery, possibly the most remote art gallery in the country.

The Cairngorm Park has the whole range of climbing available from snow and ice to summer rock of all grades. Lochnagar above Balmoral has some fine winter routes and there are smaller crags at Pass of Ballater and Glen Clova plus loads of climbing on the Aberdeenshire sea cliffs - comprehensive guides are published by the Scottish Mountaineering Club.
